Here is what the monument says:

Erected by Igloo No. 6 Pioneers of Alaska

In memory of Richard T. Harris and Joseph Juneau who landed here August 15, 1880 and selected this spot as their first camp site. Here they discovered gold which resulted in the founding of Juneau, the first white settlement established in Alaska under American possession.

Champlain (Québec) 1960

Champlain (Québec) 1960

Commemorative plaque unveiled in the village of Champlain (QC) at the Juneau Family Rally in 1960.

The plaque was donated by wrought iron artisan Marcel Juneau of Saint-Césaire, who made the plaque himself. (See Blue Book, pages 653 and 655).

Originally, the plaque had golden letters on a black background. With time, it became disfigured and it became necessary to have it made over. The picture here shows the plaque the way it looks today.
